- Optional INR amount and note
- Works with supported UPI apps
UPI QR choices
Choose a QR structure that matches how you receive money
This generator prepares a UPI payment URI for scan-and-pay. Formal merchant acceptance, category codes, transaction callbacks and reconciliation require onboarding with an acquiring bank or payment provider.
UPI ID or VPA
Use the complete address in name@provider format. It is a payment address, not necessarily the same as an email address or phone number.
Recognizable payee name
Add the person or business name the payer expects. The app may resolve and display bank-verified beneficiary information separately.
Reusable QR without an amount
Leave the INR amount empty for donations, tips or variable bills. The payer enters the amount in the UPI app.
QR with a fixed amount
Prepare an exact INR value for a product, invoice or order so the payer does not need to type it.
Payment note and reference
Add short context such as an order number. Availability and how these values appear can vary between UPI apps and providers.
Merchant-integrated UPI QR
Use an acquirer solution when you need merchant category code, unique order IDs, signed responses, webhooks, refunds or automated settlement matching.

A UPI QR is faster than typing a VPA, especially when the handle is unfamiliar
UPI IDs can contain dots, dashes and a provider handle, so copying one from a sign or invoice is easy to get wrong. A UPI QR passes the VPA and payment details to a compatible app. The app resolves the beneficiary and asks the payer to review and authorize the transfer. The QR itself does not debit an account, validate a merchant or confirm settlement.
No manual VPA entry
The payer scans the complete UPI ID instead of typing a long or unfamiliar payment address.
Less ambiguity at checkout
A prepared payee name, amount and short reference give the payer useful context before approval.
Interoperable scan-and-pay flow
The URI uses standard UPI payment fields that supported UPI apps can read and present to the payer.
Inside the QR code
What is stored in a UPI QR code?
The QR contains a URI beginning with upi://pay. Query parameters identify the payee and can include an amount, note and transaction reference. A supported UPI app interprets those fields and controls the actual authorization.
pa contains the payee VPA
The payment address must be entered in full, such as merchant@bank. The generator checks its basic structure but cannot confirm that the VPA exists or can receive money.
pn gives the payer a readable name
The payee name helps explain the request. It must not be used to override or contradict the beneficiary information resolved by the UPI app.
am and cu prepare the amount in INR
When an amount is entered, the URI includes am and cu=INR. Without am, the payer normally enters the value after scanning. Limits still come from the app, bank, account and transaction type.
tn and tr add context, not proof
A note and reference can help identify an order, but apps may display them differently. They are not a signed receipt and do not prove that payment settled.
The scanner needs to understand UPI
The most reliable path is the Scan & Pay function in a UPI app. A generic camera may display the URI, ask which app to open or do nothing if no handler is installed.
A generated URI is not merchant onboarding
Merchant category code, verified merchant status, unique transaction handling, callbacks and refunds are provided through the acquiring bank or payment service relationship.
UPI payment URI example
VPA: merchant@bank · Payee: Example Store · INR 499.00 · Reference: ORDER-1042 — upi://pay?pa=merchant%40bank&pn=Example+Store&tr=ORDER-1042&tn=Order+%231042&am=499.00&cu=INR — A compatible UPI app opens the payment screen with the payee and prepared details, then asks the payer to verify and authorize.
Check before publishing
- Scan from the Scan & Pay screen of at least two UPI apps rather than relying only on the phone camera.
- Check that the resolved beneficiary name matches the intended recipient; stop if it does not.
- If the VPA cannot be resolved, copy it into the receiving app's profile and confirm every character before regenerating the QR.
- Compare the displayed INR amount with the invoice or sign, including decimal places.
- Keep notes and references short; confirm how they appear in the UPI apps your customers use.
- Never ask a payer to share a UPI PIN or OTP. A UPI PIN is entered inside the payer's app to authorize a debit, not to receive money.
- Inspect printed signs for replacement stickers and place the expected payee name beside the QR.
- Verify settlement in the receiving account or merchant dashboard instead of accepting a screenshot as final proof.
8 checks before publishing a UPI QR code
The main risks are a wrong VPA, an unexpected beneficiary, a misleading amount and a QR that has been replaced. Test the real payment screen and preserve a clear visual path for verification.
Copy the UPI ID from the receiving app
Do not recreate a VPA from memory. Copy it from the bank or UPI app profile that controls the receiving account.
Use a name the payer recognizes
Enter the public person or business name used on the invoice or sign, then confirm the app-resolved beneficiary does not conflict with it.
Use fixed amounts only when they stay correct
A fixed amount suits one item or invoice. Leave it empty for variable totals and regenerate the QR whenever a fixed price changes.
Keep the reference useful and unique
Use a short order or invoice reference when needed. For reliable automated reconciliation, use a merchant integration that creates and tracks transaction-specific references.
Protect contrast and quiet space
Use dark modules on a white or very light solid background and keep a clear border on all sides. Avoid gradients or busy images behind the code.
Do not overuse logos
Large logos can cover payment data modules. Keep the centre mark small, leave the three corner markers untouched and test at final print size.
Show the expected payee beside the code
Print the business or recipient name and, for fixed payments, the amount. This gives the payer something concrete to compare with the app.
Test and monitor the physical placement
Try several UPI apps, make an appropriate small test payment, verify receipt and regularly check that no replacement sticker has been placed over the QR.
Features
Features
Scheme-specific validation
Account identifiers, amount formats, references and field lengths are checked for the selected payment standard.
Generated locally
The payment payload and barcode are created in the browser; the generator does not move money or register an account.
PNG and SVG exports
Download a raster image for everyday use or a scalable vector for invoices and high-quality print.
Protected fixed formats
Standards with prescribed rendering disable incompatible color, logo, shape and error-correction controls.
Optional payment context
Where the scheme permits it, prepare an amount, reference, due date or message to reduce payer entry.
Verification remains visible
The workflow reminds the payer to compare the beneficiary and amount in a compatible banking app.
Advantages & Limitations
Advantages
- Avoids typing a complex UPI ID on a small screen.
- Can prefill the payee, INR amount, note and reference.
- Uses a standard intent structure understood by supported UPI apps.
- Works on printed material and screens without exposing bank account and IFSC details.
Limitations
- A basic QR cannot confirm that the VPA exists or that a payment settled.
- Generic phone cameras and unsupported apps may not open the UPI flow.
- A personal UPI URI lacks the controls and reporting of an onboarded merchant solution.
- A valid replacement QR can redirect payment unless the payer verifies the beneficiary.
From a UPI ID to a prepared payment screen
How does a UPI QR code work?
UPI IDs can contain dots, dashes and a provider handle, so copying one from a sign or invoice is easy to get wrong. A UPI QR passes the VPA and payment details to a compatible app. The app resolves the beneficiary and asks the payer to review and authorize the transfer. The QR itself does not debit an account, validate a merchant or confirm settlement.
Enter the UPI ID and payee name
Copy the complete VPA from the receiving app and add a name the payer will recognize.
Add optional payment details
Set an INR amount, note or reference when they help identify this payment, or leave the amount empty for a reusable QR.
Create, scan and verify
Generate the QR, open it from UPI apps and confirm the resolved beneficiary and amount before publishing.
Use cases
Use cases
Retail counters
Present a reusable or fixed-price UPI QR while showing the business name clearly beside it.
Freelancers and home businesses
Share a VPA without asking clients to type it and add an invoice reference when useful.
Invoices and order collection
Prepare the amount and order note, while using a merchant provider when automated reconciliation is required.
Events and clubs
Collect fees or shared expenses with a recognizable organizer name and clear payment instructions.
Tips and donations
Leave the amount empty so the payer chooses a value after scanning.
Remote payment sharing
Send the QR image in a trusted conversation so the payer can scan it from another device or use their app's gallery import.
