Why use Pix (BR Code) instead of asking the payer to type everything?

Pix keys can be long and an EVP key is especially impractical to type. A BR Code carries the key, recipient label, optional amount and txid in a format compatible Pix apps can read.

Scan long keys accurately

Email, phone, CPF, CNPJ and UUID-based EVP keys do not need to be copied one character at a time.

Prepare an exact BRL amount

A fixed amount reduces decimal and typing mistakes for a known charge.

Carry a reconciliation txid

A short alphanumeric transaction ID can help the recipient associate a transfer with an order.

Inside the QR code

What is stored in a Pix (BR Code) payment symbol?

A static Pix BR Code uses the GUI br.gov.bcb.pix inside an EMVCo merchant-presented payload. It carries a DICT key and may include amount, description and txid.

The key must already exist in DICT

Formatting a valid key does not register it. The receiving institution must already have linked it to the account.

Phone keys use international form

Use the registered number with country code, such as +55 followed by the area code and number.

Recipient name and city are display fields

They are normalized for BR Code length limits; the bank's resolved account data remains authoritative.

txid has a strict character set

Use up to 25 letters or digits, or leave it empty to encode the conventional *** value.

CRC-16 closes the payload

The checksum helps an app detect damaged BR Code text.

Pix payload example

Email key · BRL 49.90 · txid ORDER1042 — 00020101021226...0014br.gov.bcb.pix...5303986540549.90...6304 — A compatible Pix app displays the resolved recipient, BRL amount and transaction details for approval.

Check before publishing

  • Confirm the Pix key is active in the receiving institution.
  • Use +55 international format for phone keys.
  • Do not add punctuation to CPF or CNPJ unless the registered key requires it.
  • Use only letters and digits in txid.
  • Shorten the description if the QR becomes dense.
  • Verify the recipient returned by the Pix app before payment.

Checks to make before publishing a Pix (BR Code) code

The most important check is not whether the QR scans, but whether Pix resolves it to the intended account.

Copy the key from the bank app

Avoid manually reconstructing a CPF, CNPJ or EVP key.

Choose reusable or fixed amount

Omit BRL for a reusable sign; include it for a specific sale.

Use a meaningful txid

Keep it short, unique and alphanumeric when the recipient uses it for matching.

Keep visual contrast strong

Dense payloads need a larger printed size and clean quiet zone.

Test with more than one Pix app

Compare the resolved recipient and amount before publication.

Features

Features

Scheme-specific validation

Account identifiers, amount formats, references and field lengths are checked for the selected payment standard.

Generated locally

The payment payload and barcode are created in the browser; the generator does not move money or register an account.

PNG and SVG exports

Download a raster image for everyday use or a scalable vector for invoices and high-quality print.

Protected fixed formats

Standards with prescribed rendering disable incompatible color, logo, shape and error-correction controls.

Optional payment context

Where the scheme permits it, prepare an amount, reference, due date or message to reduce payer entry.

Verification remains visible

The workflow reminds the payer to compare the beneficiary and amount in a compatible banking app.
