QR code not scanning? Identify the problem before you remake it

QR code problems usually happen at one of two stages: the camera cannot recognize the code, or it reads the code but cannot open the destination. Choose the symptom that matches what you see and work through the checks in order.

The camera opens but does not detect the QR code

If no scanning frame, link, or notification appears, the code may contain too much data for its printed size or the print may be incomplete.

  • Long vCards, text, and URLs with many parameters produce denser codes. Remove unnecessary data or increase the physical print size.
  • Use a short link or dynamic QR code for a long URL so the encoded redirect address is shorter and easier to scan.
  • Check that the print is not cropped, stretched, blurred, or missing the white quiet zone.
  • If the default camera does not support QR scanning, try Google Lens or another compatible reader.

The scan succeeds but the content does not open

When the camera shows the correct link or action, the QR image is readable. The fault is normally in the network, permissions, or destination content.

  • Open the destination link directly and test both Wi-Fi and mobile data.
  • Check sharing permissions for Drive files, PDFs, and forms, especially in a private browser window.
  • An incorrect static QR link requires a new code; a dynamic QR destination can be updated in its management page.

Common devices and apps that can scan QR codes

  • iPhone and iPad: Camera or Code Scanner in Control Center.
  • Android: Camera, QR mode, Google Lens, or a trusted scanner app; support varies by device.
  • Samsung Galaxy: Camera or Scan QR Code in Quick Settings.
  • LINE can read LINE codes, URLs, and text; Zalo includes readers for Zalo profiles and login.
  • Point-of-sale scanners must support 2D codes; 1D-only barcode scanners cannot read QR codes.
